Coler Preserve is a major mountain biking destination in Bentonville, but it’s also a great place to bird, with pleasant walking trails through great bird habitat and even a coffee shop inside. On the afternoon of Friday, April 25th, Taylor Long and Bentonville local Adam Schaffer will co-lead a casual tour of the preserve and how to bird it like a local. We’ll start at the North parking lot and work our way south along an easy flat trail into the heart of the preserve where we can stop for coffee and refreshments, then make our way back. There will be up to 2 miles of walking over two hours.
Friday afternoon field trip participants should come to the Mt. Sequoyah Retreat Center to meet your trip leader and carpool/caravan to the site. Please arrive by 12:45 PM so the group can depart by 1:00 PM.
From Fayetteville, take I-49 North for 24 miles to exit 91 and take a right on US-71 N. Follow US-71 N for 0.5 and take a left onto Peach Orchard Rd (just past the Starbucks). Follow Peach Orchard Rd for 2 miles, then turn right to stay on Peach Orchard Rd for 0.2 more miles, then turn left into Coler Preserve North Trail Head Parking Lot. The exact location of the parking lot is GPS: 36.397123, -94.238628.
Expect to return to Mt. Sequoyah no later than 4:30 PM.
